Adobe Support Community: Roll back Photoshop 23.4 to 23.3.2 “The Photoshop team has found a critical issue with the 23.4 desktop release and recommends rolling back to the previous release.”

There is an avalanche of new bug reports from Photoshop users from around the globe on the Adobe Support forum, which our developers are monitoring. In the meantime, please stay on 23.3.2 (there are no changes relevant to retouching in the latest versions) while the new errors and bugs are being sorted out.

If you have already updated to 23.4 or 23.4.1, you will need to roll back to 23.3.2 otherwise you will be getting all sorts of errors, including the “The command “Move” is not currently available” when pressing any buttons on the new UXP panels.

As always, we’d like to remind you to not rush to update to the newest version of Photoshop, if you are using the RA Panels, or any third-party Photoshop extensions for that matter. We know that you are very excited to try out the new features, but please take a moment and read this first!

We have received a couple of reports about issues migrating our panels from Photoshop CC2021 to CC2022, and it is normal – a very small number of users experience this. That typically happens when you do not check Import Previous Settings and Preferences before updating Photoshop:

However, if you use our panels on a daily basis, we would encourage you to NOT update your Adobe Photoshop as soon as the new update is rolled out. As an alternative, when you do update your Photoshop CC2021 to CC2022, be sure to check Import Previous Settings and Preferences and uncheck Remove Old Versions (as in the screenshot above). You can remove Photoshop CC2021 after you confirm that everything works as it should in the new version.

If you have already updated Photoshop to the latest version and the panels do not show up in Window > Extensions (legacy), please remove Photoshop CC2022 and reinstall Photoshop CC2021, then update CC2021 with the settings pictured in the screenshot above.

If with the correct update you still can’t find the panels in the new version, please submit a Support Ticket and our support team will be happy to help sort it out!

We have updated the RA Panels to support Photoshop CC2021 and made the new installation files available in your Member Account.

Please follow these instructions to update your RA Panels:

New Users

If you have just purchased our panels, you can download them from your Member Account and install them following the relevant installation instructions.

Existing Users – Not Yet Updated to CC2021

If you already had our panels installed in an earlier version of Photoshop, you can now go ahead and update your Photoshop to CC2021. The panels should seamlessly transfer over if you keep the Import Previous Settings and Preferences option checked when updating Photoshop in the Creative Cloud dashboard.

Please keep the Remove Old Versions option unchecked. Just in case the panels do not successfully transfer, you will still be able to use them in the earlier version of Photoshop while getting them to work in CC2021, and remove the old version after the panels are in CC2021.

Existing Users – Already Updated to CC2021

If you have updated your copy of Photoshop to CC2021, but the panels did not transfer over, please follow these steps:

Step 1: Remove the traces of the older panels on your computer by following these Uninstall instructions;

Step 2: Re-download the panel installation files from your Member Account;

Step 3: Install the panels following the relevant installation instructions.

And you’re good to go!

If you have carefully followed the provided instructions, but something still didn’t work, please submit a support ticket and we will help sort it all out! ?

Today Adobe released a new version of Photoshop. We know that you are very excited to try out all of the new features, but please take a moment and read this first!

We have received a few reports about issues migrating our panels from Photoshop CC2020 to CC2021.

Usually, a very small number of users experience this, but if you use our panels on a daily basis, we would encourage you to NOT update your Adobe Photoshop as soon as the new update is rolled out, or at least not remove the current Photoshop version, so you can continue using our panels without interruptions. Updating any software takes time and we don’t want you to wait for the panels’ updates without the ability to use them in the meantime.

When you do update your Photoshop CC2020 to CC2021, be sure to check Import Previous Settings and Preferences and uncheck Remove Old Versions (see screenshot below). You can remove Photoshop CC2020 after you confirm that everything works as it should in Photoshop CC2021.

Our developers are currently working on updating our panels’ installation software. The updated installation files will appear in your Member Account on the Retouching Academy Lab website as soon as new versions become available. It may take a few days, depending on the complexity of the update.

Once the updated panels are available, you can update your Photoshop using the settings in the screenshot above and, in case the panels don’t automatically migrate into Photoshop CC2021, you can download the new panels from your Member Account and re-install them into your new version of Photoshop.

If you have already updated Photoshop to CC2021 and the panels do not show up in Window > Extensions, please reinstall Photoshop CC2020 and continue using our panels until the updated versions of the panels become available:

It’s been 6 years since the Beauty Retouch panel was first released and became an invaluable part of the workflow for dozens of thousands of retouching artists around the globe.

It’s gone through a few UI and functionality changes, but we continue to search for new ways to make it even better. We heavily rely on our users’ feedback and, this time, instead of running a small beta-testing operation inside our Facebook RA Group, we decided to let any and all of our users participate in it.

WHAT’S CHANGED

INTERFACE:

While the look of the panel has not changed much, it now supports retina displays.

BUTTONS:

LIQUIFY & SHARPEN BUTTONS

We’ve moved the Liquify and Sharpen Image buttons down and converted them into icons. We’ve also added a Smart Liquify button, which creates a stamped visible layer at the top of your PSD stack, converts it into a Smart Object and opens the Liquify filter dialog window:

THE DODGE & BURN SECTION

The Dodge & Burn section has been re-arranged:
– we’ve moved the D&B Mid Gray Layer Set to the upper row – DB Gray, the script itself has not been changed;
– we’ve converted the Visual Aid button into an Eye icon ?;
– we’ve added a single Gray layer button – it’s the gray layer with a plus icon to the left of the eye icon button:
– the rest of the buttons and their scripts have not been changed, including the DB brushes.

THE FREQUENCY SEPARATION SECTION

The Frequency Separation section:
– the 16-bit and the 8-bit FS buttons have been combined into one button: Via Gaussian Blur. The script will determine whether you are working in a 16- or 8-bit file and trigger the respective FS action;
– we’ve added a new FS action that uses the Median filter instead of the Gaussian Blur for cleaner edges in an image – Via Median. I personally have been using this action for many years now via my Custom Actions, so I’m excited that it finally made it to the main Frequency Separation section on the panel:– the rest of the buttons and their scripts have not been changed.

OTHER CHANGES

We’ve combined the Beauty Face & Hair Sections, but the actual buttons and their scripts have not been changed.

We’ve added the Add New Layer button (layers with a plus) and it sits to the left of the Stamp Layers button at the bottom of the panel. The rest of the buttons and their scripts have not been changed (except for the added Liquify & Sharpen Image buttons mentioned earlier):

Bottom links – we’ve added direct links to some useful pages for your and all of our new users’ convenience. Each button has a little description pop-up, so it will be easy for you to navigate:

MAGIC EYES SCRIPT VIDEO TUTORIAL

The script has not changed in this version, but we’ve recently published an updated video tutorial for the Magic Eyes script, and you can find more video tutorials for the RA Panel users on our Video Tutorials page.

RA PANELS INSTAGRAM

UPDATING YOUR CURRENT PHOTOSHOP VERSION TO CC2019

If you’re updating to Photoshop CC 2019 without preserving your current Photoshop version on your computer, the RA Panels do not need to be re-installed – they should show up in your new version by default. In other words, if you are not keeping your previous Photoshop version while adding PS CC 2019, you won’t need to do anything, the RA Panels will transfer automatically.

If they don’t, please make sure they are activated via Window > Extensions. And if you can’t find them there, please contact our Support Team and they will help you out.

ADDING PHOTOSHOP CC2019 WHILE PRESERVING YOUR CURRENT VERSION

If you would like to add Photoshop CC (v20.0) and save your current version of Photoshop on your computer, uncheck the Remove old versions option in the update dialog window:

Launch Photoshop CC 2019 to check if the RA Panels were automatically transferred to your new version. Make sure they are activated via Window > Extensions.

And if you don’t find them there, please download the new installation files for Photoshop CC2019 from your Member Area and follow our installation instructions as usual:

Out of all retouching tools and techniques, Frequency Separation, when misused or used incorrectly can easily ruin your retouching results, so always remember to use it sparingly, mainly correcting midsize issues that represent a mix of color, value and texture problems in one place.

For anything else when retouching skin use either the simple retouching tools such as the Clone Stamp tool and Healing Brush, or the Dodge & Burn technique.
